Illustration 1 g01162493The crank breather is loed on the back of the engine.
Remove the tube (2) from the outlet of the breather and loosen the clamp.
Remove the bolts (1) and remove the breather from the engine.
Check the condition of the seal. Replace the seal if the seal is damaged.
Remove the breather element. Wash the breather element and wash the breather in a clean nonflammable solvent.
Shake the breather element until the breather element is dry. You may also use pressurized air in order to dry the breather element.
Check the condition of the tube. Replace the tube if the tube is damaged.
Install the element into the breather and install the breather.
Install the tube onto the outlet of the breather cover and tighten the clamp.
 
Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the engine oil filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Filter Base - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publiion, NENG2500, " Dealer Service Tool alog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: This procedure can be performed while the engine oil filter base is on the engine.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Remove plug (1) and O-ring seal (2) .
Remove spring (3) .
Remove plunger (4) .
Repeat Steps 1 through Step 3 for the remaining plug (1) .

Remove plug (5) and the O-ring seal. Remove adapter (6) and the O-ring seal.
Remove plug (7) and the O-ring seal.
If necessary, remove taperlock stud (8) from engine oil filter base (9) .
